Braden Tipton and Camryn Stepp are headed back to the UIL State Tennis Tournament for the second straight season after another stellar showing at the Region I tourney last week at the Arlington Tennis Center.
The Tiger duo went 3-1 during the tourney and fell just short in the championship match. However, both teams in the championship match qualify for state.
Tipton and Stepp began the tournament with a 6-3, 6-2 win against a team from Trophy Club Byron Nelson and followed with an impressive 6-0, 6-3 second-round victory versus a team from Abilene High.
They advanced to the title match after beating a team from Coppell 6-2, 6-3.
The UIL State Championships are scheduled for May 16-17 at Texas A&M University in College Station. Stepp and Tipton hope to better their performance from a year ago when they made it to the state semifinals before losing to the eventual state champion from Austin Westlake.
