The Frenship softball team opened up 2017 district play on the diamond by splitting their first two contests.
In the district opener on March 10, the Tigers bats exploded for 15 runs and 14 hits in a 15-4 run-rule victory against Amarillo Tascosa. Caroline Kerr led the offensive attack by going 3-5 with a double and four runs batted in. Hailee Little was 3-4 with two RBI, Marissa Maribal was 2-4 with a double and four runs scored, and Anna Williams added three RBI as well. Keeley Etchison was the winning pitcher after striking out five Lady Rebel batters and allowing no runs and only three hits in five innings of work.
Last Tuesday, FHS found themselves in a defensive pitcher’s duel with Odessa Permian that took extra innings to decide. In the end, the Lady Panthers were able to scratch across a run in the bottom of the ninth for the victory. Torrey Hogan pitched a complete game for the Tigers and only allowed the one run while striking out nine batters.
On Friday, the Tigers stepped out of district play and collected a late inning, come from behind win versus Abilene Cooper. FHS pushed across two runs in the bottom of the sixth and held on the top of the seventh for the victory. Caroline Kerr was 2-4 at the plate with a home run, a double, and two RBI. Torrey Hogan was the winning pitcher after collecting three strikeouts in 1.2 innings of relief.
Frenship softball is now 12-9 on the year and 1-1 in District 2-6A play. They return to district action Tuesday when they host Midland Lee. First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m.
