FHS will battle Lubbock Cooper Saturday afternoon prior to the Texas Tech men’s final game at the Coliseum versus Abilene Christian.
The doubleheader was originally scheduled for Friday night at the Tiger Pit, but Texas Tech men’s basketball coach Chris Beard extended an invitation to both schools to come be a part of Saturday’s historic festivities.
The Tiger and Pirate girls tip off at 2:00 p.m. and the boys will follow. Tickets are five dollars for adults and one dollar for students. One ticket grants entrance to both games.
For FHS coaches Trent Hilliard and Paul Page, the opportunity to be a part of Lubbock history is one they will cherish for many years to come.
“What a great opportunity that we get to send off the Lubbock Municipal Coliseum by being the last teams that ever get to play in that facility,” Hilliard said. “On a personal level, this will be really special since my granddad Polk Robison coached the very first game in the Coliseum and was one of the ones instrumental in getting it built. To get to coach a game on the last day basketball will ever be played there is pretty cool.”
“We are extremely excited be a part of this special event,” Page added. “We were lucky to get the opportunity to play a couple of games in the Coliseum this summer during Tech’s team camp, so our guys are a little familiar with it, but to have an opportunity to be the last high school basketball game ever played in such an historical facility means a lot to us as program.
“We would like to thank Coach Beard and his staff for helping make this event happen.”
Parking is available on the east side of the Coliseum. The east side doors will be the only available entrance.
Texas Tech will enforce their clear bag policy on Saturday as well.
All fans will be required to dismiss from the Coliseum between the Frenship games and the Texas Tech game at 6:00 p.m.
