A hard fought and highly contested first half turned into a deep hole for the Frenship football team as Lubbock Cooper turned two turnovers into touchdowns that changed a 3-3 tie into a 24-3 halftime lead. The quick deficit was too much for the Tigers to overcome as the Pirates eventually won 41-9.
After the first 20 minutes of the game produced a defensive battle and only a field goal for each team, the Pirates cashed in on good field position to take control of the game. Zykeith Campbell caught two passes for touchdowns during that stretch for CHS.
FHS opened the scoring in the second half with an Austin Phillips 11 yard touchdown pass to Mason Weathers, but Cooper answered with Eli Boyd’s second score of the night.
Frenship (0-3) travels to Abilene this Friday night to battle the Abilene Cooper Cougars. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at Shotwell Stadium.
