The Frenship baseball team moved one step closer to clinching the District 2-6A championship Tuesday night, and they did it with their third shutout of Monterey. This time it was a 4-0 victory Tuesday night in Wolfforth.
Koby Claborn was magnificent again on the mound with another complete game performance. The senior southpaw gave up only four hits while striking out 10 Monterey hitters. Claborn only needed 84 pitches in his seven innings of work.
Jaxon Armstrong landed the knockout punch with his first home run of the season, a two-run home run that came in the sixth. He finished the game batting 2-for-3. Kyler Genenbacher was also 2-for-3 with a double.
The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the fifth when Frenship scored twice thanks to a Plainsmen error followed by an RBI triple by Chandler Casey.
Frenship swept the season series with Monterey and shut out the Plainsmen in all three games. They outscored their cross-town rival on the year 20-0.
The Tigers are now 17-7 (8-1 in district) and have a three-game lead on the remainder of the district with three games to play. Their first chance to secure the outright district championship comes Friday when the team travels to Amarillo to battle Tascosa. First pitch is set for 4:30 pm.
