FISD extends congratulations to Willow Bend Elementary teacher Sandra Jimenez for her selection as Frenship ISD’s nominee for the 2016 Lubbock Christian Award for Excellence in Teaching. Jimenez was recognized for this high honor during a ceremony held at LCU on Tuesday, March 22.
Jimenez, a third grade dual language teacher at Willow Bend, was nominated for this year’s award last fall by former Willow Bend principal Denise Stewart. Each FISD campus submitted a nominee, and Jimenez was selected from the 12 campus finalists.
The Lubbock Christian Award for Excellence in Teaching recognized one outstanding teacher from each of the 11 public school districts with attendance areas located in Lubbock County.
The criteria for the Lubbock Christian Award for Excellence in Teaching includes teaching and educational service. Both teaching and service will be evaluated by the blue-ribbon committee.
Specific criteria for outstanding teaching includes:
Subject Matter Knowledge – possesses strong subject matter knowledge and the ability to convey the content to students
Planning for Student Learning – develops instructional lessons that address student background, interest and learning needs
Engaging All Students – utilizes instructional strategies, resources, and technology to promote student success
Positive Classroom Community – creates positive relationships with students and a sense of shared responsibility
Positive Professional Communication – effectively interacts with students, parents, and colleagues
Specific criteria for outstanding educational service includes:
Contributions to the School Community – engages in activities that support students, their families, and colleagues
Contributions to the School District – engages in activities that promote professional development and student success
Contributions to the Teaching Profession – engages in activities that promote the teaching profession beyond the campus and district through professional presentations, publications, and related service
