Westwind Students Tasty Take on Math

Westwind second graders in Mrs. Payne’s math classes recently used tasty treats to learn about place value. The students were given baggies that contained cheez its, pretzel sticks and  M&Ms all ranging in different values. The treats were a fun way for the students to organize the different numerical values, plus the students were more inclined to efficiently complete their work to enjoy their snack.

“I learned there are tens and ones in one hundreds, and it was fun to eat,”  said Ella, one of the students in class.

It was a different approach to the typically worksheet for the students and everyone seemed to enjoy the yummy new take on math!
