Westwind First Graders Go Wild About Bugs

Students in Michelle Baker’s first grade class at Westwind Elementary learned all about insects by participating in a unique activity involving party horns.

The activity taught students about insects, their exoskeletons and how they consume resources. Students used the party horns as tongues to try to catch bugs made of paper, each side containing a Velcro strip. Students were eager to try to gather as many bugs as possible.

Baker explained that the game was a fun, hands-on technique that engaged the students while learning.
