TVMS Students Write Letters to South Plains Honor Flight Veterans

The students of Terra Vista Middle School recently shared their appreciation to the men and women who bravely served our country through a recent writing assignment.

The eighth grade students in Joseph Sledge’s social studies classes were asked to write letters to local veterans attending the Texas South Plains Honor Flight, a project dedicated to honoring the service of area veterans with a three-day trip to Washington DC to see their war memorials.

Each TVMS student was asked to write one letter of appreciation to a veteran. When this year’s Honor Flight left Lubbock last Friday, all of the veterans were able to read the student letters. The project allowed for the students to help make the veterans’ day during the trip.

According to their website, the annual Texas South Plains Honor Flight to Washington DC is at no cost to the veteran. All expenses including charter flight, lodging, and meals are covered by contributions from local civic, religious, education, business, foundation, and private donors.
