The district basketball championship race is heating up for the FHS boys and the Tigers are right in the middle of the action as the season’s end is approaching. FHS split a pair of games last week to stay right in the mix for the title.
The Tigers finished off a season sweep of Tascosa last Tuesday night by outscoring the Rebels 21-13 in the final quarter and turning a five-point deficit into a three-point victory. Ja’Marqus Lewis was the offensive catalyst with 20 points in the game. Calaway Dykes and Jordan Palmer added eight points apiece.
Despite draining eight three pointers Friday night, FHS fell just short on the road at Permian 67-62. Noble Robinson’s 16 points led the Tigers in scoring. Jastyn Garret added 13 and Dykes had 11.
Frenship (19-10, 4-3 in district) finds themselves coming down the stretch of the season in a tight four-team race for the district title. FHS, Tascosa, Midland and Permian are all within one game of each other for the lead with three district games left to play.
The Tigers are on the road Tuesday night at Midland Lee. They host Odessa High on Friday.
