The Frenship baseball team celebrated their already-secured district championship by finishing off the schedule with a two-game winning weekend versus Coronado and Amarillo High.
On Friday’s senior night for the Tigers, FHS made the most of only five hits in 5-3 victory against Coronado. Tresten Kennard was 2-for-3 including the big two-run single in the fifth inning that gave the Tigers the lead for good. Koby Claborn added an RBI triple in the first inning.
Chandler Casey got the win on the mound in relief. He pitched three innings and allowed one run. Coronado stranded eight on base in the game.
On Saturday, Frenship scored 14 runs in the first three innings and blew out the Sandies of Amarillo 18-3.
Kennard was hot again at the plate going 3-for-3 with a double, triple and 4 RBI. Matthew Hernandez added two hits and 3 RBI as part of the Tigers’ 11-hit performance.
Parker Bingham got the win on the mound for Frenship. Conley Green and Aaron Mayfield also pitched for the Tigers in the win.
Frenship added their final three runs in the fifth courtesy a Brenden Horst single that scored Tristan Herrera and a Jake Salyer single that scored Colton Stephens and Horst.
Frenship, the District 2-6A champions with a record of 20-7, now begins the first-ever run in the Class 6A playoffs. Play gets underway in the bi-district round this weekend versus El Paso Franklin. The Tigers and Cougars will play a three-game series beginning Friday, May 8, at 4:00 pm. Game two is Saturday at noon with game three to follow if necessary. All games are at Odessa High School.
