The Frenship softball team used the combination of hot hitting and solid pitching to capture a two-game sweep of El Paso Eastwood and capture the Class 6A Bi-District championship last weekend in Artesia, New Mexico.
The Tigers made quick work of Eastwood Friday night in game one with an 18-run outburst of offense and an 18-8 win. They then shut the door on the series with a 6-2 victory Saturday in game two.
In Friday’s game one, Frenship scored in every inning and pounded out 15 hits in the five-inning run-rule victory. After scoring five in the first inning to take control of the game, the Tigers scored seven runs in the fifth to ultimately finish off the game.
The fifth included a two-run single by K’Leigh Arredondo and RBI singles by Clarissa Gonzales and Arianna Reyes.
Arredondo had three hits, including a double, and three runs batted in. Addison Jobe added three hits and McKaley Johnson had two in the game. Sam Clark contributed with three RBIs as well.
Clark got the pitching win for Frenship, striking out three in her five innings of work.
In game two, the Tigers blew open a tight game with a five-run fifth inning to take a commanding lead. Gonzales stayed in control in the pitching circle to close out the series sweep. She struck out seven and walked only two over seven innings to get the win.
Arredondo and Anna Williams each had two hits to lead the Tiger offense. Clark landed the final blow of the game with a three-run home run in the fifth.
