Tiger Softball Beats Amarillo, Now Preps for Playoffs

frenship_tiger_pawThe Frenship softball team jumped out to an early lead and then blew things open in the seventh to wrap up district play with a 9-3 win on the road at Amarillo High.

After scoring two in the first inning and two more in the third, the Tigers exploded for five runs in the seventh. K’Leigh Arredondo and Anna Williams were guilty of the offensive damage in the seventh. Arredondo collected her second hit of the game with an RBI single. Williams followed with a two-run double to finish off the scoring.

Arredondo finished with two hits, including a triple, and two RBIs. Williams had two doubles and four RBIs.

Clarissa Gonzales struck out 12 Sandie hitters to pick up the win in the circle. She allowed two earned runs on seven hits in a complete-game performance.

Frenship now turns their attention to the Class 6A playoffs that begin this weekend. The Tigers (21-5) are the second seed out of District 2-6A and will match up against El Paso Eastwood. The two teams will play a best-of-three series in Artesia, New Mexico that begins Friday at 7:00 CST. Game two begins at 1:00 Saturday with game three to follow if necessary.
