Amber Casas, a student at Frenship Middle School, participated in the Scholastic Art and Writing Competition held this year. The talented artist entered three pieces in the contest and two of them have won awards.

The first of her two drawings won an Honorable Mention and her painting titled “Imagine” won the American Visionary Award. The painting is 36 by 18 and took approximately three to four weeks to complete. This award is presented to the top four pieces of art in the entire competition. This is the first time ever that a FMS student has won this award. The award is chosen from approximately 2000 pieces of art work entered in this completion from schools in the entire region.

What makes this story so unique is this title is typically awarded to high school students so to have a middle school student win is a huge accomplishment. Casas’ painting will now head out to New York to the National Finals that will take place in April. Along with the award she has earned a personal invitation to attend the National Competition in New York.

Amber is an extremely talented young artist that has a very bright future ahead of her.
