The Frenship softball team celebrated opening ceremonies in grand style Tuesday night by putting on a stellar performance in route to a 3-1 victory against Canyon in front of a packed house at the newly-renovated Tiger softball complex.
Destinee Vindiola led the Tiger hitting attack with a mammoth two-run home run in the fifth inning, Addison Jobe added an RBI single in the same frame, and the three runs proved to be enough for the win.
Canyon scored one run in the seventh, but pitcher Sam Clark closed the door to secure the Tigers’ tenth win of 2015. Clark picked allowed only one run and three hits in a complete-game performance.
The game capped off a great night for the softball program which began with the team’s 2015 opening ceremonies. The ceremonies included the recognition of members within the FISD community who contributed to the softball complex renovations in the off-season. The renovations include new covered stands, a new sound system, a new backstop with netting, updates to the dugouts, an updated press box and updated batting cages.
Members of the FISD Board of Trustees along with FISD Superintendent Dr. David Vroonland were in attendance for the ceremonies. The FHS softball program will also make a 500-hundred dollar donation to domestic violence from money raised at Tuesday’s game as well.
Frenship is on the road Friday to battle the Andrews Lady Mustangs. The varsity team will throw the first pitch at 7:00 p.m.
