Safety Advice from Wolfforth PD for this Halloween Weekend

Monday evening, October 31st will be a very active day in Wolfforth. The Wolfforth Police Department will have additional officers on patrol as activities across town will attract more vehicle pedestrian traffic than usual. Please be aware of your surroundings and stay alert. Here are some things to keep in mind:

In Your Car

  • Put electronic devices down and keep heads up
  • Eliminate distractions
  • Drive slow and with caution in residential neighborhoods
  • Be extra cautious when entering or backing out of driveways
  • Look behind your parked vehicle before backing

While Walking

  • Don’t walk while dialing, texting or using social media on cellphones
  • Keep cellphone conversations to a minimum to ensure attention to your surroundings
  • Ensure that an adult is always walking with a child or children
  • Walk on the sidewalk when possible
  • Walk facing traffic when no sidewalk is available
  • Watch for parked cars that are departing
  • Have lights and or reflective material on all people in your party
  • Don’t allow anyone in your group to carelessly dart into the roadway

Costumes

  • Ensure that costumes don’t obstruct vision
  • Ensure that costumes don’t have tripping hazards
  • Avoid all dark costumes that don’t have reflective material

Also

  • Report suspicious activity to police
  • Don’t approach a home if the outside lights are not on
  • Make sure the home is inviting for guests
  • Use common sense in the timing of trick or treating (5:30 to 8:30 recommended)
  • Be courteous and respectful of yards, decor and other people’s property
