Pre-Kindergarten students at Oak Ridge Elementary soaked up the sunshine and enjoyed an outdoor visit from some furry friends last Friday.
Party Time Ponies & Events brought a petting zoo to the school so students could learn about and interact with the animals. A miniature horse, miniature cow, lamb, rabbits, birds and an albino hedgehog were all in the mix.
Shalyi McCartor, owner of Party Time Ponies & Events said, “It’s such a joy to see kids interact with animals and see their faces light up as they meet them!” McCartor, a Frenship alumna, brought some of her animals to Oak Ridge to coincide with the Pre-K’s animals unit. “Frenship runs deep in my family and I am so happy to be able to be a part of the education of the next generation of Tigers.”
“Frenship is committed to providing hands-on experiences for all of our students,” explained Director of Entrepreneurship & Innovation Keith Patrick. “Pre-K students are at the very beginning of their educational journeys, and the more real-world connections we help them make with what they’re learning in the classroom, the more authentic their learning will be.”
In the fall semester, Oak Ridge Pre-K hosted visitors from Lubbock Fire & Rescue, Frenship High School Culinary Arts, and UMC EMS as part of their communities unit.
