North Ridge Teacher Receives LCU Excellence in Teaching Award

IMG_3150Congratulations to North Ridge Elementary teacher Luis Martinez who was recognized as a 2017 Lubbock Christian University Distinguished Educator Award recipient. Martinez was recognized for this high honor during a ceremony held at LCU on Tuesday, March 21.

Martinez, a fourth grade math teacher at North Ridge in his third year with the district, was selected as the FISD representative from the district’s 13 campus finalists. He was nominated for this year’s award by North Ridge Principal Shannon Morrison.

“Luis Martinez has answered the calling of teaching,” said Morrison. “He takes time to get to know his students on a personal level and connects with some of the most challenging kids in the building.  He brings a level of excitement and innovation to work daily.  Luis is not just loved by the students but his 4th grade team as well.

The Lubbock Christian Award for Excellence in Teaching recognized one outstanding teacher from each of the 11 public school districts with attendance areas located in Lubbock County.

The criteria for the Lubbock Christian Award for Excellence in Teaching includes teaching and educational service. Both teaching and service will be evaluated by the blue-ribbon committee.

Subject Matter Knowledge – possesses strong subject matter knowledge and the ability to convey the content to students

Planning for Student Learning – develops instructional lessons that address student background, interest and learning needs

Engaging All Students – utilizes instructional strategies, resources, and technology to promote student success

Positive Classroom Community – creates positive relationships with students and a sense of shared responsibility

Positive Professional Communication – effectively interacts with students, parents, and colleagues

Specific criteria for outstanding educational service includes:

Contributions to the School Community – engages in activities that support students, their families, and colleagues

Contributions to the School District – engages in activities that promote professional development and student success

Contributions to the Teaching Profession – engages in activities that promote the teaching profession beyond the campus and district through professional presentations, publications, and related service
