The obvious growth going on in Wolfforth shows that this community seems to live up to its motto “the place to be.” From the year 2000 to 2010, Wolfforth has seen a 47% increase in population growth and that growth pattern has continued in recent years as well. In 2014 Wolfforth saw two new residential neighborhoods developed, Preston Trails and Preston Hollow. Preston Hollow, located just off Donald Preston Drive, has 84 residential single family lots in phase one with new houses already complete. These homes will range in price from $225,000 to $300,000. Preston Trails, just off Alcove Avenue south of Preston Estates and 66th Street, is zoned a Planned Unit Development to feature single family residential, multi-family, and light commercial. Phase one has 44 completed lots and the first construction permits have been filed for duplexes to be located on Preston Trails Road. These multi-family units should help fill a need for rental housing not currently being met in Wolfforth. The January 2014 completion of the Wolfforth Public Recreation Center in Preston Manor has renewed interest in this subdivision. Permits in Preston Manor in 2014 accounted for roughly 30% of the total number of permits city-wide.
With new housing construction evident in multiple area of the city, the 26% increase in housing permits from 2013 to 2014 should not be a surprise. Most construction is taking place in the area north of Donald Preston Drive but the J Henry addition south of Highway 62/82 has also seen more construction. Neighborhoods such as Preston Park and Preston Estates that have been in development for some time are beginning to fill and few vacant lots are still available.
