Frenship Students Cross the Finish Line on Iditarod Project

Third grade ELAR students in Michelle Hiner’s class at North Ridge Elementary just completed a reading project where they followed the 2018 Iditarod races.

While students read the books Stone Fox and Akiak, they followed the long-distance dog sled races. Each student chose a musher to follow and kept up with their progress through the race’s website.

While watching the races, students chose a character trait they wanted to focus on from the name – IDITAROD – innovation, diligence, integrity, teamwork, attitude, respect, optimism and determination. A large quit was made in the hallway using drawings of the character traits the students chose.

Students concluded the study by writing letters to the mushers.
