The Frenship Middle School Chess Team participated in their first tournament of 2016. The Texas Tech Check with Tech Chess Tournament at Estacado High School took place on Saturday, January 30, 2016.
FMS dominated the competition with 16 out of 28 students winning at least 3 games. Had the students not had to play against each other in the final round they could have received even more points. FMS had four players tie for first place. In total five players finished tied for first, four from FMS and one from HMS.
Landon Wilson, Chris Cashman, Zach Madry and Ben Myers all won first place with four wins and 0 losses. FMS also won first place as a team with a total of 12 out of 12 points. Heritage finished in second place with 9 points. In addition FMS finished with a new record in total points towards the City Championship. The old record was 49.5 points achieved by FMS in October. This tournament FMS finished with a total of 52 points setting a new record for a single tournament point total by 2.5 points.
The players dedication and devotion to chess is clearly visible through the results and success they have experienced.
