Frenship Students Compete in District Battle of the Books Competition

Students from all eight elementary campuses competed in a district competition, in which they answered trivia questions about a selection of books.

District-Battle-of-Books-20Students in the third through fifth grades from all eight Frenship ISD elementary campuses gathered together Thursday (April 27) at Legacy Elementary to compete in the District Battle of the Books competition.

Teams of all grades competed in three rounds of trivia questions to see who recollected the most about a selection of books.

The books included:

  • “The Best School Year Ever” by Barbara Robinson
  • “Miss Rumphius” by Barbara Cooney
  • “Sarah Plain and Tall” by Patricia MacLachlan
  • “Allergic to Girls, School, and Other Scary Things” by Alvin Ho
  • “Zorgamazoo” by Robert Paul Weston
  • “All About Sam” by Lois Lowry
  • “The Original Adventures of Hank the Cowdog” by John R. Erickson
  • “Where the Mountain Meets the Moon” by Grace Lin
  • “The Velveteen Rabbit” by Margery Williams
  • “Jeremy Thatcher, Dragon Hatcher” by Bruce Coville

District-Battle-of-Books-10A total of 46 teams competed in the district competition.

The winners included Legacy’s The Book Lovers (third grade), Crestview’s Midnight Readers (fourth grade) and Bennett’s Space Bars (fifth grade).

The final round for the third grade ended in a tie breaker between Legacy’s The Books Lovers and North Ridge’s Dragon & Dragonettes, both scoring 57 points. At the end of the tiebreaker, Legacy came out on top, scoring a total of 62 points.
