A Frenship High School senior has created a project to address students’ need for hygiene products.
On any given day, Lauren Shephard might be found at a National Honor Society Meeting, cheer practice, working at Urban Bricks Pizza, fulfilling her duties as a Lubbock Symphony Debutante or attending senior level classes at Frenship High school.
Despite her busy schedule, Shephard has developed a way for the Frenship community to assist students in need.
Over the summer, Shephard read an article explaining that many students miss school because they don’t have access to basic hygiene products.
Instead of just noting the fact and moving on, Shephard took action and created the Caring Closet.
Shephard used Facebook and Twitter to reach out to her peers and community about her solution for providing hygiene products to students in need. The Caring Closet quickly amassed hundreds of hygiene products with the help of private and corporate donations.
“I don’t want students to miss out on their education because they don’t have something as simple as toothpaste,” Shephard said. “I want everyone to be clean, confident, and ready to learn.”
Shephard hopes the project will continue to grow throughout the school year. She would love to see the Caring Closet continue to operate after she graduates at the end of this school year.
To donate to the Caring Closet, please bring unopened hygiene products to the front office of Frenship High School.
