After the Frenship girls’ soccer team opened the playoffs in dramatic fashion with a 1-0 win against El Paso Franklin last Friday, the Tigers now press forward into the area round of the Class 6A playoffs.
In the playoff opener Friday at Ratliff Stadium in Odessa, senior Allyson Rumfield scored the only goal of the match in the second half and goalie Danielle Falcon played strong in net to preserve the shutout and secure the Tigers third consecutive trip to the area playoffs.
Frenship (14-6-4) now squares up against Arlington Martin (17-4-2) on Thursday, April 2 at Shotwell Stadium in Abilene. The match starts at 7:30 p.m.
This is a battle of young versus old between these two great programs. The Tigers, competing in the 6A playoffs for the first time in school history, are a combined 49-21-5 in three years of varsity play. Martin is 511-180-43 in the 32 years of the program’s history.
Both Frenship Head Coach Gery Joy and Martin Head Coach Ruth Knight are the only coaches to have been the head coach at their respective schools.
