The Frenship Middle School Chess Club participated in the September Check with Tech Chess Challenge on Saturday, September 19th, 2015. This was the very first tournament of the 2015-2016 season and FMS had 24 students attend the tournament.
Overall FMS did extremely well with Lukas Adams finishing first in the 6-8th grade division with a total of four points. FMS had nine other students finish with three wins and one loss. This was an extremely good outcome giving FMS 32 points towards the Grand Prix, which is the city championship which will be given in May upon completion of this year’s tournaments.
The Grand Prix is the accumulation of all points given throughout all the tournaments and is awarded to the school with the most points. FMS Chess Team took the Grand Prix title last year, and they did a great job defending their title at the first competition of the season.
