FISD Hosts Innovation Summit

JUKES

Over 2,000 elementary and secondary educators from across the region could be found at either Frenship High School or Frenship Middle School on Tuesday ready to learn. FISD hosted its first Innovation Summit to showcase various 21st century methods and skills that could be incorporated into their teaching to reach students more effectively.

Elementary staff started their morning by hearing from Mr. Ian Jukes, the founder and Executive Director of the Info Savvy Group, an international educational leadership consulting firm. Secondary staff heard from Dr. Yong Zhao, an internationally known scholar, author and speaker.

Both of these men spoke about the significance the world of technology now has on education, and the importance of adapting teaching styles to better prepare students for success. The two guest speakers traded locations to address the other group of attendees for the second half of the day.

Once the general sessions concluded at both FHS and FMS, the attendees were released to breakout sessions taught by their peers. Topics included helpful apps to encourage student learning, using QR codes in your lesson plans, ways to comfortably add technology to your teaching style and many more.

Thank you to everyone who attended the event, to Mr. Jukes and Dr. Zhao, all breakout session presenters and to the curriculum and instruction staff of Frenship ISD whose hard work made the summit a huge success.
