Frenship ISD and the city of Wolfforth extend deepest sympathies to the family of Eleanor Bailey Bennett, a longtime Wolfforth resident and teacher in the district who passed away Thursday. She was 99.
After receiving a degree from Texas Technological College, Mrs. Bennett returned to her roots in Wolfforth to begin her teaching career. She was proud to say she was a part of Frenship’s first faculty when the district opened in 1935-1936. That year, she taught 7th grade.
Mrs. Bennett retired in 1980 after 44 years of teaching. Her husband J. Weldon Bennett served as the Frenship ISD Superintendent from 1955-1983.
Frenship honored Mr. and Mrs. Bennett in 1991 by naming Bennett Intermediate, now Bennett Elementary, after the beloved couple.
FISD also recognized Mrs. Bennett during the district’s 75th Anniversary celebration in 2010.
Mrs. Bennett loved to stop by the Bennett campus to visit with the students. Bennett students loved to celebrate her milestone birthdays through the years as well.
Mrs. Bennett moved to Wolfforth with her family when she was 10 years old. She attended Wolfforth Schools before the Frenship school district existed. She remained at Wolfforth through 10th grade because at that time, Wolfforth only went through 10th grade. She finished high school at Shallowater before attending college.
Frenship and Wolfforth will remember the dedicated service of Mrs. Bennett to our community and school.
