FHS Hosts Additional Prom for Very Deserving Students

DSC_0218Friday, April 24, 2015 was not your typical Friday at Frenship High School. The Student Center at FHS was decorated with balloons, flowers and lights for a very special event. Kayci Smith, Focus and Inclusion Teacher at FHS, came up with the idea to host a Classic Prom for Classic Kids. What is that you ask? Well, it was a prom dedicated solely to the special education kids from Frenship ISD, along with participation from Brownfield ISD, Levelland ISD, Lubbock Cooper ISD and Slaton ISD. Students arrived from their respective campuses dressed to the nines. Students at FHS helped their fellow classmates get ready for their big day by assisting with make-up and hair styling.

She requested assistance from the Special Education Department at Frenship and quickly word spread about the event that was to take place. Before Smith knew it, monetary donations, food and even formal clothing for the students began pouring in not only from FISD staff but from across the county. Volunteers from FHS students to staff dedicated themselves Friday morning to help in anyway possible to make the event a success.

The students arrived around 11 a.m. Friday, started taking pictures with their friends through the generosity of Childress Photography, followed by partaking in the wonderful food that was prepared for their enjoyment and they concluded the afternoon tearing up the dance floor. The smiles on everyone’s faces were priceless. The kids had a great time and it was just as enjoyable for the parents and staff to see the kids having such a wonderful time. A great big thank you to everyone contributed to this day that many will never forget!
