FHS Hosting Regional Visual Arts Competition Saturday

Ashlley McClellan Project-1More than 500 pieces of artwork created by the hands of students representing 18 West Texas high schools will be on display Saturday, February 13 during the Region 17 Visual Arts Scholastic Event (VASE) competition at the Frenship High School Performing Arts Center.

An array of two-dimensional and three-dimensional categories make up the competition including drawing, painting, clay sculpture, jewelry production, photography, and digital media.

The public is invited to attend from 4:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. to view the artwork on display. The awards ceremony begins at 5:00. Admission to attend is free.

Regional VASE winners will advance to the state competition scheduled for April 22-23 in San Antonio.

Autume Young ProjectParticipation continues to grow at the Regional VASE competition as this year includes approximately 520 entries submitted by 400 students from different 18 high schools. Each participating student could enter no more than two pieces of work.

According to the Texas Art Education Association website, the mission of the Visual Arts Scholastic Event is to recognize exemplary student achievement in the Visual Arts by providing art students and programs a standard of excellence in which to achieve.
