Exclusive Spring Prom Held for Select Students

DSC_0664Some very special students of FISD had the opportunity to have their perfect prom just before spring break thanks to Modesta Molina, a student from Shallowater ISD.

For several years now area schools have taken turns hosting the Special Education Prom. The students have started looking forward to this extravagant day each school year, even lining up dates from other students in their class! For many years Brownfield ISD hosted the SPED Prom, with Frenship ISD hosting the event just last year. This year Molina made all the arrangements for the festivities as a project for one of her high school projects.

Through communication with area school districts, 14 schools were represented at the prom including: Frenship ISD, Shallowater ISD, Brownfield ISD, Levelland ISD and Denver City ISD just to name a few. The students enjoyed a lavish lunch provided by Olive Garden, sweet treats and of course lots of dancing.

“We appreciate Shallowater and especially Modesta for graciously hosting the prom this year,” said LaFawnda Kubacak, FHS Life Skills Teacher. “It was absolutely beautiful and the students had a wonderful time. The students always enjoy getting out and getting dressed up.  I especially love all the excitement that builds up to this special day-all the planning, trying on clothes, etc.  Prom is always such a special time for all students and Life Skills students are no exception!”
