Donald Preston, Pillar of the Wolfforth Community, dies at age 80

Wolfforth, TX – Donald Coleman Preston, 80, of Wolfforth passed away on January 28, 2018.

A visitation will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home of Lubbock from 6-8pm on Wednesday, January 31. Funeral services will be held at Wolfforth United Methodist Church located at 102 Donald Preston Drive at 2pm on Thursday, Febuary 1.

Donald was born on October 18, 1937 in Welch, Texas to K.C. and Cliffa Jean Preston. He graduated from Frenship High School in 1955 where he starred in football. He was married to his high school sweetheart, Syliva Dalton for 62 years. He and Sylvia owned and operated Preston Meat Packers for over 25 years. During his 32 years of service to the City of Wolfforth, he served as a city councilman beginning in April of 1981. He was elected Mayor on April 7, 1986 and served until 1992. He also held the office of Municipal Court Judge from 1996 until his retirement in 2013. Donald was instrumental in the opening of the City of Wolfforth Libary in October 1987.

Donald lived for his family and loved serving others. Besides spending time with his family, he loved visiting his ranch in central Texas and tending to his cattle.

Donald is survived by his beloved wife, Syliva, three sons, Danny and wife Amy of Tahoka, TX, Leslie of Brownfield, and Curtis and wife Karie of Muleshoe, TX, nine grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He was preceeded in death by his daughter, Gaye Preston Johnson.
