The first grade class at Crestview Elementary participated in a very unique field trip experience on Monday, February 29. The students loaded buses first thing Monday morning and headed off to college at Texas Tech University for their full grade field trip.
The Crestview first grade teachers wanted to refocus the annual field trip and create an experience relevant to their student’s futures. The day was about college and career exploration for these students and to help them understand there are many opportunities available once they complete high school. The students participated in a scavenger hunt on the Texas Tech campus and they also participated in an activity called “Color Your Future” to help them think about what they may want to be when they grow up.
“Trips like this help establish a great baseline for elementary students as we help them explore their talents and passion to make bigger decisions later on”, said Keith Patrick, Director of Entrepreneurship and Innovation and Frenship ISD.
The Crestview students were served lunch in the Student Union Building and were able to get a glimpse of what it is like to be a college student. The day’s activities concluded with a special trip to Jones AT&T Stadium where the students were able to walk on the field where the Texas Tech Red Raiders play football.
