Did you know that students who play interactive video games will make a decision every .5 to 1 seconds while playing?
This is the message that is driving Frenship ISD’s new “.5 to 1″ Initiative,” an initiative that the district showcased to the state’s highest education dignitaries on Friday, February 13.
Frenship ISD and Terra Vista Middle School welcomed Michael Williams, Texas Commissioner of Education, State Senator Charles Perry and members from the Texas Education Agency to the district to see the .5 to 1 Initiative in action during Doug Davis’s 8th grade math class. The valued guests also visited with TVMS teachers about the new collaborative learning efforts FISD is currently implementing.
It was a great opportunity for these individuals to hear from teachers and students the difference this style of teaching is having on educational experiences.
Students are exposed to a world filled with instant technology through their devices and interests. Frenship ISD is moving forward by adapting the learning atmosphere to match the world that students bring to the classroom. Frenship ISD is forming classroom learning environments which will integrate student experiences of collaboration, communication, and curiosity while working with information in various contexts.
COMMUNICATION – Students critically thinking through conversations about the objective and goal based in the content.
CURIOSITY – Inquisitive thinking that creates a desire for students to question, gain knowledge and want to explore deeper with this knowledge.
COLLABORATION – Students working together to achieve an objective or goal.
CONTEXT – Creating a relevant, memorable experience that extends student learning to the real world.
