Boys Soccer Remains Undefeated, Claims Another Tournament Championship

The Frenship boys’ soccer team remained undefeated on the year and collected their third tournament gold trophy Saturday with a 1-0 victory against Amarillo High in the championship game of the West Texas A&M Showcase in Canyon. The title game celebration capped off a perfect weekend.

After three pool play victory over Coronado (4-1), Borger (10-0) and Palo Duro (1-0), the Tigers squeezed passed Sunset in the semifinals. Regulation produced a 0-0 draw, but FHS pulled out the win 7-6 on penalty kicks to set up the title bout with Amarillo.

“I’m just really proud of seeing what we work on in training being implemented these games,” said FHS boys’ soccer coach Scott Smith. “I know everyone likes winning, but I enjoy performances ahead of results. In addition, to have some D2 college coaches inquire additional information on some of the athletes in our program is the icing on the cake for me.”

The Tigers are now 14-0 on the year and have outscored their opponents 68-1. They begin District 2-6A action on Friday, February 9 at Odessa High.
