Tip of the Hat to One of Oak Ridge’s Finest

Tuesday evening, February 10, Oak Ridge held its annual Family Reading Night.  This year’s eventsmith reading was a celebration honoring principal, Doug Smith. Mr. Smith is in transition to his new position as Director of Special Education for FISD, and the PTA, staff, parents, and students wanted to honor him and wish him well in his new position.   Mr. Smith was the guest reader and talked to the kids about how he came to love hats and about all the “hats” people wear as they grow.  He also read one of his favorite books, The Giving Tree.  PTA members served refreshments and created a photo booth with fun Dr. Seuss and Frenship-themed props. The evening concluded with a presentation of heartfelt (and heart-shaped) messages from all of the Oak Ridge students.  Oak Ridge will miss him as principal, but will still enjoy his presence as he continues to serve Oak Ridge students and all FISD campuses.
