The Frenship softball team put up eight runs in the second inning and never looked back to open District 2-6A play with a 12-4 against Monterey.
The eight-run second was sparked by two-run doubles from Hailee Little and McKaley Johnson. Johnson along with Addison Jobe and Clarissa Gonzales each had two hits in the game.
FHS (10-11, 1-0) added three more runs in the third. Marissa Mirabal doubled to score Little, and Brea Varnell’s single scored Jobe.
Clarissa Gonzales was dominant in the pitching circle, striking out eight while allowing only one earned run, five hits and three walks in a complete-game performance.
Tuesday’s game was played in honor of former Tiger softball player Holly Combs to bring awareness to domestic violence. Combs, a graduate of Frenship High School in 2008 lost her life in October 2014 in an act of domestic violence. A sign was presented to the family that will hang at the softball fields and collection was taken that will be donated to help support domestic violence.
