BI-DISTRICT PLAYOFFS
FRENSHIP 5, EL PASO EASTWOOD 0
The lights may have been brighter and the stage may have been bigger when the Class 6A playoffs kicked off Thursday night in Midland, but it was business as usual for the Frenship girls’ soccer who rolled to another shutout victory and captured a Bi-District championship in a 5-0 win versus El Paso Eastwood.
The Tigers once again used an attack-style offense and shutdown defense to dominate the match from start to finish. FHS managed 29 shots (11 shots on goal) to just four (one) for the Lady Troopers.
The match remained scoreless until the 19th minute when Chloe Woodard broke the tie with a goal off of a free kick. Madyson Hoel picked up the first of her two assists during the play.
Hoel assisted on Natalie Jones’s goal in the 33rd minute of the first half that extended the lead to 2-0 by intermission.
The game would remain that way for the first 26 minutes of the second half until Allyson Scott scored the first of her two goals on a header that gave the Tigers a 3-0 lead. Scott and Morgan Zapata would add insurance goals in the final ten minutes of play to secure the victory.
With the Bi-District championship in hand, the Tigers now move to the Area round of the Class 6A playoffs. They next play Keller Timber Creek in a match set for Friday, March 31 at 7:30 p.m. at Shotwell Stadium in Abilene.
