Earlier this month Lubbock County hosted their annual Stock Show, where students all over the county bring their animals out for show. The county stock show hosts steers, lambs, goats, and swine as well as an Ag Mechanics competition.
Frenship FFA had a good year at the county show with five placings in the mechanic contest and numerous show animal placings. Among the several awards given to Frenship students, Bliss Bessire took home the title of Grand Champion Overall in the pig show division.
Additionally, FFA member Devon Walker was awarded the Lubbock County Fighting Heart Award. This award honors a deserving senior who worked hard but unfortunately did not make the sale with their animal. The Lubbock County Stock Show Board created a spot at the sale to specifically recognize the senior who won the Fighting Heart Award. Many businesses and donors rallied around Devon and raised $15,000 for him.
“We were humbled by the love and support shown to our very own Fighting Heart Award recipient and those who raised money for Devon Walker,” said Kelsea Jones, Frenship FFA Teacher. “It was truly incredible, and this is why we do what we do!”
