The Frenship High School Percussion Ensemble took first place at the Chamber Percussion Ensemble Competition held at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention Friday in San Antonio.
As a chamber performance, the competition requires the students to play completely on their own without a conductor, relying on non-verbal communication and movement to stay together. The Frenship Percussion Ensemble had many great remarks from judges Julie Davila, John Beck, and David Hall, all of which are world-renowned performers, composers, and educators.
The ensemble was comprised of six upperclassmen percussionists: Lars Lindgren, Hadleigh Garza, Cory Powell, Joseph Whiting, Emma Montague, and Britni Henry.
Friday’s performance could not have taken place without the special help of David and Karen Henry, Ricky and Dawn Garza, Matthew Baldizan, Justin Kennon, Rachel Isley, the Frenship band staff, and the Frenship Administration.
