Congratulations to the 2015 Tiger Marching Band on winning the Grand Championship Trophy at the Tumbleweed Classic Marching Festival Saturday in Denver City. The Tiger Band performed in the Harvest Festival Parade in Wolfforth early Saturday, October 3 before making the afternoon trip to Denver City.
The Tumbleweed Classic is a unique competition because it features outstanding bands from West Texas and New Mexico. The festival is divided into a preliminary performance by all the bands and then a night finals performance bringing back the top seven bands. The top three bands at the Festival were: 2nd Runner Up – Hobbs High School, 1st runner up – Monterey High School and the Grand Champion – Frenship High School.
In addition to the full band awards, the FHS Percussion Line was named Outstanding Percussion Line, the FHS Guard was named Outstanding Guard, and flutist Jane Whiting and Caitlyn Banks shared the Outstanding Soloist award for several flute solos in the show. Other soloists for the band are Bb clarinet player Rebecca Barhorst, Charles Banks on Euphonium, Lars Lindgren on Snare Drum and Izaiah Garcia on Horn.
This Saturday, October 10th, the Tiger Band will perform at 10:00 at Lowrey Field in Lubbock in the Westerner Marching Festival. Then on October 17th, The Tiger Band will perform at 11:00 AM in the UIL marching contest at Lowrey Field in Lubbock. Seeing the Band in competition is a lot different from Friday night halftimes. There is no crowd noise except for the applause of marching band fans from Frenship as well as other competing schools. Best of all, you will be able to hear all of the soloists as well as the full range of dynamics from the musicians.
Congratulations Tiger Band! We are proud of you and wish you the best of luck in your upcoming competitions!
