Convocation 2016 Puts A Little “Pep” In FISD Staff’s Step

IMG_0288The start of the 2016-2017 school year officially started for all faculty and staff of Frenship ISD Wednesday morning with FISD’s Back to School Convocation. All 1,100 employees filed into the FHS Tiger Pit for an exciting back to school pep rally.

The festivities included performances by the FHS cheerleaders, dance team and the Tiger band for all in attendance.

IMG_0061Entertainment for convocation was produced by a giant flash mob led by Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Michelle McCord, with assistance from talented students and staff. After a warm welcome by Board of Trustees President Brad Draper, the crowd witnessed their colleagues bust a move in an all campus dance-off.

The staff also received words of encouragement and motivation from one of Frenship’s great alums, David Thomas.

Jersey Presentation-2 David is a member of the FHS Class of 2002 and during his time at Frenship became one of the most accomplished football players for the Tigers. David played at the University of Texas where he broke school records for receptions, touchdowns, and yards by a tight end. He also played a prominent role in the Longhorn’s 41-38 National Championship win in 2006.

David was drafted by the New England Patriots in the 2006 NFL Draft. After three seasons in New England he was traded to the New Orleans Saints. In 2009 he had a career-high 35 receptions and the Saints would go on to win Super Bowl 44.

Convocation 2016 would not have been possible without the support of many businesses in the community. Thank you to Benchmark Business Solutions, Costco and Grand Canyon University for being the presenting sponsors for the pep rally, as well as all the other companies that contributed support for the staff of FISD.

We look forward to another school year full of academic achievements, engaged learning and student success!
