Congressman Randy Neugebauer Visits Willow Bend

DSC_0794Tuesday morning offered a special opportunity for students at Willow Bend Elementary as United States Congressman Randy Neugebauer addressed several classes. This year Willow Bend started their first Student Council. They have done numerous events throughout the year to get engaged in the community and bring awareness to causes near and dear to their hearts. Congressman Neugebauer spent several minutes talking about his role in Congress, that many conversations revolve around education and the students best interests, as well as took some questions from the students.

One student asked if he ever had an intentions of running for President and another asked if he had ever met any sitting presidents? The Congressman had a nice story to share with the students about riding aboard Air Force One with President George W. Bush while he served in office. Their trip led the two men from Houston back to Washington, D.C., but he shared that on that very special plane ride the two dined on some famous Texas Bar-B-Que.

To conclude his appearance with Willow Bend, Congressman Neugebauer gave Student Council President Elizabeth a gavel to commemorate the campuses successful first year with a student council, and he presented Assistant Principal Sasha Bennett with a United States Flag that has flown over the Capitol for the Willow Bend Campus. It was a wonderful learning experience for the students and a great way to cap off a successful school year!
