The City of Wolfforth Library is excited to announce that they have been awarded a $24,500 grant from the Ladd and Katherine Hancher Library Foundation. The Ladd and Katherine Hancher Library Foundation considers grant requests from public libraries serving populations of 50,000 or less. Projects are reviewed for the level of educational contribution to the community. This competitive grant award will be used to create a dedicated space for early literacy, learning, and parent education and empowerment. This funding will allow the library to transform an underutilized area of the library to better serve the population by creating a space that will encourage parent-child engagement, early literacy activities, play to develop gross and fine motor skills, and will help users create connections to other families in the community.
This grant will allow the Library to create a place that helps develop healthy families, which in turn creates a healthy community. Literacy begins at birth and the programs offered will not only educate the child, they will educate the parents and caregivers on the importance of playing and interacting with their child(ren) to build the foundation of literacy. The library has existing partnerships with Literacy Lubbock and the Parenting Cottage and this relationship will continue to ensure they provide the best possible resources to our community, both of which are non-profit organizations based out of Lubbock. This project will allow them to continue strengthening these partnerships and to reach out to residents that reside in and around the Wolfforth area. The goal will be to empower parents and caregivers through library programs, open play time, and parent education to foster early literacy, parenting engagement, family support, and community bonds that will help ensure that children are ready to enter school.
This project will create a special place for education, fun, learning, friendships, resource sharing, and community, all of which Wolfforth and our neighboring rural communities desperately need. The entire community will benefit from this project in that children will be adequately prepared for learning and success when the reach school age and parents and caregivers will be equipped with the tools and resources to help their children be successful. Young people are the future leaders of our community and country and it is our responsibility to provide them with all the tools they need to be educated and responsible citizens.
Congratulations to the City of Wolfforth Library and thank you for all you do for the Wolfforth Community!
