With summer quickly approaching, the Wolfforth Public Library is gearing up for its “heroic” Summer Reading Program. “Every Hero Has a Story!” begins on May 28th. Readers compete by grade level for trophies, t-shirts and other prizes and the library offers great incentives and prizes for all participants. Wednesdays from June 4th through August 13th feature a 10am Preschool Story and Craft/Activities Hour along with the yearlong 12:30pm Tiny Tots Story time for children birth to 4 years. The Hero theme continues on Fridays in June and July at 12:00 noon. Bring your lunch and watch a “Hero” themed movie with your friends. The Summer Reading Contest ends with an all-day event on July 27th! Other featured activities this summer include a visit from Miss Texas Collegiate Kylie Boyd on June 10th at 10am. Kylie will be at the Library reading to children and also sharing her anti-bullying campaign. What about those teenagers? Teens are encouraged to apply to be a volunteer this summer. The library is looking for several volunteers to help with story hours, organizing the children’s room and helping with the end of summer party. Volunteer forms are available at the Library.
How can you as a parent be a Hero this summer? First of all, all heroes need a library card and they are free! Also, parents should read with your children daily and encourage your child to spend time reading and looking at books. Talk to your children about what they are reading and help make reading fun. For more information, contact the Wolfforth Public Library at (806)855-4150 or email library@wolfforthtx.us. The Library is open Monday through Friday 9am to 8pm and Saturday 1pm to 5pm.
