Oh Deer! Frenship Students Become an Ecosystem for the Day

Third graders at Westwind Elementary learned about ecosystems through a live action game involving deer, wolves and natural resources.

A Texas Tech doctoral student assisted third grade teacher Mrs. Murphy with the fun activity. Students were divided into groups of three and represented each part of the ecosystem. As the game progressed, the wolves ate the deer, the animals ran out of resources and then become resources themselves.

At the end of the project, students grouped together and wrote a reflection story about what happened during different scenarios in the ecosystem. It was a fun and engaging way to learn about each step in the process.
