Thirty wins for the second year in a row. An outstanding accomplishment for Trent Hilliard and the Frenship Tigers.
The amazing season of 2019 Frenship Tiger basketball came to unfortunate end on Friday night as the Richland Rebels banked home a three-pointer as time expired to beat FHS 53-51.
The Tigers showed their grit throughout the back-and-forth game. Trailing by three at the half, FHS opened up the second half on a 12-4 run to take a 37-32 lead. But Richland responded with a run of their own to regain their three-point halftime lead by the end end of the quarter.
Senior Ashton Beeles came up clutch in the fourth with a three-pointer to tie the game at 44. She scored eight of her team-high 16 points in the final frame, and her bucket late gave the Tigers a 49-48 lead. Fellow senior Cassandra Awatt stretched the lead to 51-48 with a bucket of her own. Richland then pulled within one before the miracle shot at the buzzer.
Despite the loss, FHS tied the school record of wins set last season with 30. The FHS program is a combined 60-12 the last two years.
