Food, Filling and Fun: Students, Rotary Club Join to Provide Food for Others Over the Holidays

More than 220 Frenship students will receive a backpack full of food for the winter break.

Right before Frenship ISD releases students for the winter break, Frenship High School and Willow Bend students teamed up Tuesday (Dec. 19) with the Rotary Club of Lubbock to fill backpacks full of food to give to Frenship students for the holidays.

The food included:

  • Peanut butter
  • Jelly
  • Bread
  • Canned vegetables, soups, and meals
  • Horizon Organic milk
  • Fruit cups
  • Macaroni and cheese
  • Noodle cups
  • Crackers and more

The Rotary Club of Lubbock raised more than $6,000 to purchase food from United Supermarkets, and more than 220 students within the district will receive the backpacks before the break begins.

Jeanne Yang, a senior at Frenship High School, said helping fill the backpacks is a wonderful way to help others.

“I think it’s awesome to help other kids to make sure everyone stays fed over the break,” Yang said.

Frenship ISD’s superintendent, Dr. Michelle McCord, said the best part about filling the backpacks is that these are Frenship students helping other Frenship students.

“Partnering with the Rotary Club to fill and deliver these backpacks for our students teaches our kids to be responsible citizens, which is one of our district goals,” McCord said.
